Shogun Mailbox – walked past Shogun with friends and decided to go in. It’s always looked quiet but we thought we would give it a try. 4 of us wanted to eat one just wanted a drink. Unless all of us ate, they would not serve us………I wonder why no-one goes to Shogun???

Bar Estilo Mailbox – themed Spanish (ish) restaurant. Food here is OK no more. Bar is not bad and a pleasant place to drink. For some reason, even when its busy, it doesn’t take long to be served.

Penny Blacks Mailbox – good beer – a very strange bar – looks like they want it to look like the Pubs in deepest darkest Suffolk attached to a modern bar – weird but good.

Around the world in 80 dishes Broad St – all you can eat, dishes of almost every type. Not expensive, a good atmosphere, not the highest quality food, but its all you can eat – what do you expect. For an all you can eat it a great place to go with friends cos everyone will like something – probably even if they are a veggie! Enjoy!

The Chameleon bar Hill St – Good lively venue food is good tend to get very busy Friday and Saturday evenings and gets louder as it gets later. Time your visit to your volume taste! Definitely one the the Birmingham venues worth a visit – where the beautiful people of Birmingham go!

Shimla Pinks Indian restaurant (top of Broad St)- BRING BACK THE OLD ONE!
Shimlas used to be the coolest place to eat great Indian food. Now it has gone up market with linen table cloths, exotic cutlery and from the two occasions I have been since the sort of menu that offers more words than the actual food that arrives. The food is no doubt lovely, just not what i was hoping for. It may be for some people but not me. Perhaps I’m not sophisticated enough, but hey you’re reading this, it only my opinion – just bring the old one back!

Revolution Bar (top of Broad St) – vodka cocktail bar and dancing. Lot of vodka cocktails and shots of all kinds if thats your thing. Dancing till late in a non-dodgy club kind of way.
Recommended for a date!

City Inn Brunswick Sq (just behind the Novotel on Broad St) – a good mid range hotel. Good quality rooms. Easy to deal with and not too expensive if you catch them on the right day – expect to pay 60-80 for a room – don’t pay more. Haven’t eaten or been to the bar there yet so can’t comment

Jurys Inn Broad St – A midrange hotel trying to be expensive. With open plan reception, bar and restaurant you get the feeling they are trying very hard to be a flash hotel, but just don’t quite manage it. The staff are not friendly, check in is a pain and problems arise a lot and are not always easily resolved. The bar is OK not special and usually busy with hotel guests. The restaurant offers an all you can eat experience with mediocre food – if thats what you want try the other side of the street – literally – in the “80 dishes around the world” – better, more varied and less expensive. Just my 2p but there are better value hotels in the city centre.

Hyatt regency on Broad St – tall plush hotel. Bar and restaurant is in a wide open atrium. Lifts are on the outside and glass – not for the faint hearted. Rooms are comfortable and with good views of the city centre. A good stop for the discerning traveller.

Britannia Hotel New St – economy hotel – difficult to park near here – multi storey car parks around the bullring or selfridges your best bet. The bar is **cheap** like Wetherspoons cheap. Beer is fine but the wine is truly awful. Rooms are acceptable but will not set the world on fire. Generally the hotel is a bit dark and needs a refurbish but hey its cheap. Prices fluctuate wildly on comparison sites be sure to get a good deal. We like trivago and laterooms.

Malmaison – upmarket hotel, hidden away in the Mailbox – fabulous steaks despite pretentious bread board presentation. Drinks in the bar are good, the cocktails are worth a try if that’s your thing. It is expensive, but once in a while it is worth treating yourself. Rooms are luxurious but limited views. Sunday nights you can stay for #85 with a #75 credit towards dinner and drinks – actually makes it an economical proposition too!

The deal has been updated – now pay #100 with a #75 bar / restaurant tab you get a great room for #25 quid

Ramada Encore – fairly new hotel to the City Centre. Efficient check in nice bathrooms with walk-in shower. Bar on the first floor is a nice area with balcony. Views from bar, balcony and rooms is terrible (Kwik Fit, Garage and car cleaning company) as hotel is on the outskirts of the the city centre. Access to the Arcadian, Mailbox and Bullring is good.

Novotel on Broad St B1 – they are about to refurbish the hotel – unnecessary in my opinion – opening the wall between the bar and the restaurant seem silly and we will miss the pool table in Elements. The hotel itself is good!

They did film a snippet of the hustle here!
